Beautiful vintage Navajo multi stone collector’s concho belt! Made by noted silversmith Harry Morgan (b.1958-2007). Sixteen (16) pieces make up this beautiful belt (1 Buckle, 8 butterflies, and 7 conchos) Each piece has an even blackened oxidized appearance. The buckle displays four (4) repousse’ wings with rain clouds between the top two and bottom two. There’s two (2) stamped sunrise symbols on both ends, plant symbols flanked with sunrise symbols on inside of cut out for belt catch. He’s mounted ten (10) small oval cut stones set in serrated bezels (two (2) coral and two (2) malachite above and below the belt catch and two (2) each of Sleeping Beauty turquoise, lapis lazuli, and pink rhodochrosite to both sides of belt catch. Each concho displays repousse’ stamped sunburst with animal tracks in center. Nine (9) stones of a mix of Sleeping Beauty turquoise, lapis lazuli, malachite, spiny oyster, coral, rhodochrosite, Red Mountain or Pilot Mountain turquoise, and finishing with repeat sunrise stampwork around the outer rim. The “butterflies” consist of repousse’ butterfly wings with a single stone mounted in center and repeating sunrise stamping around the whole outer rim. The conch’s have two (2) copper belt slides on back with the butterflies having a single copper slide attached. The buckle is tied on the belt using leather ties. The artist has used a 3/4” wide black leather belt. Harry Morgan was known for working in the “old pawn revival style” following the old ways of Navajo jewelry. He was very well respected winning multiple awards for his jewelry. He has gallery displays in Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian, Peabody Museum, Heard Museum, and also remembered for creating the horse tack in Robert Redford’s movie The Horse Whisperer. The buckle measures 2” by 2 3/8” across, the conch’s measure 1 3/4” by 2 1/8” across, and the butterflies measure 1 5/8” by 7/8” across. The leather belt measures 37” long by 3/4” wide with set holes starting at 31” and ending at 35”.
